WEDM single crater asymmetry

چکیده

Abstract In wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM), the erosion is made through a series of overlapped craters. The shape these craters has relevant impact on characteristics machined surface, from surface roughness to heat effects during spark. Current models EDM process do not represent specific WEDM characteristics, such as radial asymmetry crater or geometrical shape. order characterize crater’s dimensions in WEDM, single experiments are performed polished steel for pulses with different energy levels. A 3D optical microscope used map craters’ topographies (experimental work). To capture dimensions, an ellipsoidal equation applied Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm. capable identifying along length, perpendicular and depth crater. ratio between dimension define aspect characterizes its elongation. found be dependent pulse energy. Low-energy create rounder craters, while high-energy form elongated that longer length. Such behavior suggests formation constricted by geometry, having preferential direction growth,

North-south asymmetry in Martian crater slopes

[1] The presence of an extensive ice-rich layer in the near subsurface of the Martian regolith could result in viscous creep responsible for softening of craters at middle and high latitudes. The temperature of ground ice will vary spatially within a crater owing to the effect of slope on the effective angle of insolation. The temperature at a particular latitude will also vary temporally owing...

Ion impact crater asymmetry determines surface ripple orientation

Ion bombardment causes surface instabilities on a range of materials including metals, semiconductors, and insulators. However, the proposed mechanisms for these instabilities have yet to explain the rich range of nanometer-scale patterns that are observed experimentally. Here we show that smoothing balanced by impact angle dependent mass redistribution explains the atomistic origin of ripple f...

Experimental Investigation of Asymmetry of Vortex Flow Over Single Delta Wings

It is generally believed that, on slender delta wings, there is a critical state at which strong asymmetric vortices are found along the leading edge on the lee-side of the delta wing. These asymmetric vortices can lead to high lateral forces even when slender delta wing is at the zero angle of yaw. Some experimental studies reported recently, cast considerable doubt as to the validity of the a...

Roughness Asymmetry as a Clue to the Evolution of Crater-associated Dark Diffuse Features on Venus

Introduction. About 65% of large (>30 km) craters on Venus have associated radar-dark diffuse features (DDFs) [1], including well-expressed radar-dark parabolas [2]. DDFs were interpreted as surficial deposits of loose material lifted during crater formation [2, 3]. Craters with parabolas are thought to be the youngest [2]. The morphological sequence of the DDFs from parabolas to halos to faint...

Apex-antapex Asymmetry of Impact Crater Density on Ganymede’s Dark Terrain

Introduction: Synchronously rotating satellites bombarded by a heliocentric impactor population should have a difference in crater density between their apex and antapex of motion. Predictions by Zahnle et al. [1] indicate the crater density at the apex could be up to ~70x greater than at the antapex. An absence of such a difference could be caused by saturation crater-ing, periods of nonsynchr...
